I'm wanting to order a new set of tires this weekend. I'm new to trailers and need some advice.
My camper has a GVWR of 10,000 and D rated tires will cover this but after reading about all the blowouts I'm just a little nervous. I'm considering going to E rated tires and I'm sure that it will make the camper ride rougher but how much rougher. The E rated tires won't cost much more and I'm going to buy a quality tire that has a good reputation.
I've read about a lot of you that have upgraded but haven't read anything about the difference in the ride. Is there a lot of difference, not much difference in the ride and would you upgrade to a heavier tire again?
Thanks,
Danny
I made the switch to E's on my 3rd set of tires, and I'm glad I did. I do normally run at 80 psi, though I will drop to 70-75 for =specific= trips when I know I'm going to be running lighter than normal. We run heavy when we boondock, as we're simply carrying more stuff with us. FWIW, I'm into my 4th year with Carlisle RH radials, and can't complain about them. Starting to weather check a bit, but otherwise still seem solid. Stored covered and on boards. I don't exceed 65 mph, especially when running heavy, and tend to stay around 60 mph. I figure that, given the Carlisle's speed rating of 70-something, the fact that I'm "over-tired" per my placard and my usual speed, my tires shouldn't give me too much trouble under normal conditions. I don't consider trash in the road and potholes "normal", though. :-)
