Do yourself a big favor! Bite the bullet and upgrade to 16" rims and LT tires. You will have many more choices on tires and will be able pick a tire easily anywhere you are located. Chris

thanks chris, I was wondering about doing just that, but am not sure how to go about it. I have 6 lug wheels, haven't measured the opening in the center. would I use the same size, except 16 instead of 15 as in st225/75r16 load range e?

I really hate it when manufactures put 15 inch tires on a 5th wheel....that's a whole lot worse then putting Marathons on it.....

while there are certainly other viable options, for me the choice has become relatively simple .... for E-rated and below tires I like Maxxis .... for G-rated I like Goodyear G614's

You’ve got a lot of reading and homework to do.

What’s in a brand name? About 8% of all Ford passenger cars and light trucks come from the factory with OEM Hankook tires. The vast majority of RV trailer tires are foreign made and come with such names as Freestar, Hirun, Towmax, or Marathon, just to name a few.

Your best recommendations will be found in your trailer’s manual and on the trailer’s federal certification manual. They wont mention brands though. Call or eMail your trailer manufacturer about your replacement selections before purchasing them.

in my mind, when it comes to tires, most camper manufactures have a huge credibility issue .... most install the cheapest tires they can find and won't back them for a single day .... as part of the cost cutting, the ratings margin of OEM tires can be pretty small .... the when a tire fails, the camper manufactures refer to the tire manufacture for any assistance

Increasing the Weight rating in pounds as posted on the sidewall is more important than brand .
There is a good solution that uses your current 15 inch wheels , that will fit your wheel wells :
There are at least 2 different LT graded tires in a 225/70 R15 size that can be fitted to your current wheels .
Neither are made in china.
Recent discussions on this forum have shown that LT tires are graded using a tougher standard .
They are :
Goodyear Cargo G26 rated 2470 # , made in germany and france.
Continental Vanco 2 rated 2470#, made in germany and slovokia .
I ordered continentals from tire rack on a monday and they were delivered by wednesday recently .

There is plenty of evidence to show that Maxxis brand tires are no better than any other Asian brand .
There are 20 reported Maxxis failures on this forum , and so far no Maxxis passenger car tire has been above the Lowest 25 % in ratings per Consumer Reports .
The best way to improve your chances of not having a tire failure is to increase the load weight rating in pounds as shown on the sidewall .
That is measurable .
To rely on brand for improvement is similar to going to a casino .
That is not measurable .

If I were you, I'd change over to LT's and 16 wheels. I say this because I did on my Savoy. While Maxxis did not work well for me, they are still highly rated here and may be your best choice if not changing to LT's.

Brand does matter when you choose one that has a steel ply carcass!
