Could have been, but that would normally show up mostly across the tread, not just along an edge. I'd have axle alignment checked to be sure. You are/did balance the new tires, right?

Good idea for 16" load range E tires in your size. However if you have to go with a load G tire then we have several made in asian countries that beat the pants of any of American G tires from a reliability factor. 16" commercial grade all steel carcass Sailun S637 is tops.
And there are lots of excellent P and LT tires made in china. Its been ST C/D and E tires that has given so many trailer owners (rv and non rv) bad issues and terrible service.

That explains the success we've had with our Towmaxx G tires. According to the tire shop, they said they are considered quality tires. So far so good.

That's the first time I've =ever= heard "Towmaxx" and "quality" in the same sentence. :B

Maybe, but more than likely if it's one spot on the tire, a tire issue. We had a similar issue. After our RV tech noticed another tire in the same position with a tread separation issue, he advised us to get the alignment checked. Took it in and we were out of alignment by 1/2".

One spot sounds like a tire issue, not suspension or alignment.

In addition to the possible faulty tires, you may also want to have your suspension system inspected for possible alignment issues. If you trailer axles are true and straight, the likelihood of excessive tire wear should be minimal. With all the stress, vibration, push/pull during towing and turning, your suspension does go through a lot. Having it inspected annually would save a lot of heartaches and headaches in the long run! Just my thoughts.

Classic symptom of a tread separation. You were lucky to get the tire replaced before this became a catastrophic failure.

Out of balance is generally a cupped tread all the way around.
Flat spot could be an extended skid in that spot but more likely a shifting belt causing out of round and ready to let go. Really need a picture for best guess.

You cannot judge tires for trailers strictly by their looks. Trailer tires do not show wear like those on you car or truck they age and they are not like a fine wine they suck and begin to fail more the older they get.
