Using smaller axles is not why 5ers have high pin weights.
The higher pin weight helps it tow better by planting the rear truck axle more firmly and putting that load directly over the axle. Do not try to reduce it by loading up the back, you can get a poor towing trailer that in an extreme case could be dangerous.
To the OP: you are probably borderline needing a dually at 15k. Run the real numbers to see where you are. It could be OK but you probably can't load up 500lbs of firewood in the bed without going over the limits.
