toilet replacement

Concerning a Thetford Aqua Magic Style II toilet. Recently the foot flush handle fell of the body. The flush handle is spring loaded and held on to the body by a raised ring on the plastic handle fitting O.D. This ring fits into a detent ring on the I.D of the toilet body (may be hard to visualize). On close inspection the foot flush handle ring is worn to the extent it will not stay on the toilet body. Pressure from the spring pushes it back off after a few flushes.

Now here is the problem. A replacement handle is $75, about half the price of a entire new toilet. Plus there is no guarantee the detent ring on the toilet body is not worn excessively also.

So, while this is a very poor engineered design, for the sake of install convenience I'm thinking about going back with the same Thetford model. That is unless someone could suggest another make or model. I certainly don't mind spending more for a replacement if a different model or make would offer some advantages. The one I have is a china bowl but I can't see any problem going back with a plastic bowl, maybe even a hand flush. Any help appreciated.

thanks, but installation is no issue or concern for me. I've changed/repaired many RV toilets. My question involves what is a good model to replace the Thetford Style II with.

I'm about 3 hours east of you, but if I was closer bet we could make a deal. The Dometic 310 would be a possibility for me.
  • Check if you have the short or tall model.

Our short model had the same issue about a month ago and it was $150 installed and we moved up to the tall model which is much more comfortable consider the small space.

  • We had the exact same problem and after Camping World in Arizona tried to fix just the foot pedal without much success, they GAVE us a new toilet. Same brand and model. That was about 6 months ago and so far this foot pedal has stayed on. However, if this goes, we will get a Dometic as a replacement.
  • The Bravura is one replacement that has a larger base which makes it more stable for adults it is plastic foot flush. About $255
The Aria is a china replacement. about $650
The Style Plus has a china bowl with polymer base. About $315
Some newer models requires the base bolts to be moved. The Bravura doesn't. Not sure about others.
