I will admit that I did NOT watch the video prior to my previous post. I ASSumed that the dolly hooked up using a ball or pintel. I now see that it replaces (becomes) the shank with additional chains used to attempt to make the TV and the dolly ONE.
I can see were someone with 18 kids and counting, could use this behind their 15 passenger 1 ton van (5 kids bungeed to the roof rack). It could be a solution to the "yes you can tow that weight, BUT you do NOT have the payload capacity" dilemma.
Still scares me...especally with the turning wheels. Just one more part that can turn when it would not be welcomed. For instance, under heavy braking. Yes, I did see it has its' own brakes. My steer tires still turn under heavy braking, so I can imagine that heavy braking could "push" those wheels sideways. Stopping hard, having those wheels turn, could push the rear of the TV into a jack-knife situation. I know tv (tele) makes it seem like most jack-knifes are when the trailer makes a big looping motion that comes around to meet the truck....truth be told, the trailer normally pushes straight thru the truck, the truck turns backwards to meet the trailer.
Neat invention? Yes, I think it is.
Would I use it? No. Then again, I don't have a boat load of children I need to haul around. For me, it just seems better to buy a heavier duty 4 door Pickup. They seat six people...if you need more room than that, buy a suburban and pack a tent :B You and Momma don't need anymore "alone" time in your own space.
