I have a 2013 GMC HD2500 w/ 6.0 gas engine and a 4.1 rear end. It is rated to tow 14,400 lbs. I am not saying this is the truck for you but the info is for comparison purposes.

I tow a combined weight of 32,500#, 23K of that is the 2016 39TKSB3 MobileSuites. I am within all SAE axle and tow ratings. TV front axle 5,460# rear axle 9,580#.

Truck is rated at 6K front axle, 9,750# rear axle and combined at 37,800#.

NO you don't need a MDT or HDT to tow this size RV. I have towed the whole West Coast with zero issues including high winds.

Truck is a 15 RAM Dually LongHorn with 4,10's and Aisin transmission. I averaged 8.65 from WA to CA with two of those tanks having severe head winds. Without the two bad tanks I would have averaged 9mpg. IMHO that is good mileage for that weight. Some will claim more but that is taking tanks from 7.5 to 10.5 and averaging them all out.

The exhaust brake is AWESOME! Lock the trans in the same gear you would have climbed that grade in and set cruise and enjoy the ride down!

The factory rear air is awesome, the truck rides great loaded and unloaded and also sits the same with 9,580# sitting on the rear or empty.

Yes, the GVWR on that 5er 2016 Keystone Montana 3711FL is 16,565#, not the answer to the question the OP is asking.
The 3,100# pin is still 19.7% of full GVWR.

Cummins12V98 states 37,800# GCVW.

As stated previously a 2013 or newer Ram 3500 DRW with Aisin transmission and 4.10 rear end is well within it's tow ratings for that trailer. I believe they are rated for 31k lbs IIRC.

My truck has the G56 manual transmission so it is rated to tow less on paper but I tow 16k lbs with it and would not be afraid at all to go considerably heavier with it. It handles our 5er with ease in all conditions.

In that range with an F350 drw. Does fine, took it over I70 when I first bought it.

Cummins12v98 tows a DRV at that weight with a 2015 RAM Longhorn dually 4x4 with 4:10 gears and Aisin tranny along with rear air suspension. States it tows great! Chris
