Portland has experienced a daily snowfall of 8" - 12" of 30 degree heavy stuff. The area is shut down with chains required on all vehicles. I'm watching the news this morning with the reporter standing on the overpass looking at stranded traffic and a dually with a good size fifth wheel passes underneath. Is the driver crazy or a stud? Will rigs like this perform adequately in adverse snow conditions? Personally, I'd like to give the guy a high five.
Let me guess, it was either the Sylvan overpass on the Sunset Highway (26) or one of the I-5 overpasses in the Tigard area? Those were the ones most of the stations would use when I lived there.
I'm confident in my ability and my setup and know my limitations. I have no confidence in the ability, setup, or judgment of others. Most of the time, it seems like you are just a bigger target.
In the Portland area, things seem to go from snow to ice very quickly, and in an ice storm you are on a skating rink with others of questionable ability. If you want to have some fun, go on YouTube and do a search on something like "portland drivers snow" or any similar videos from firemanjeff. He literally has hours of videos you might find enlightening.
