The bad thing about snow in the Willamette is that when we get it, it tends to be a more humid/wet type of snow. The kind of snow that makes great snow men and snow balls. It bonds together easily and compacts together to make sheets on top of the road ways. The wind tends to struggle to scour that snow off of the surface. Then we get those barely above freezing days that melt the top layer and back to the freezing nights to make a nice ice rink. Even if you have studded snow/winter tires, you still slip and slide a bit if you're not careful.
The other factor is all the elevation changes on the road, no nearly as flat as the midwest. If it's fresh fallen snow and we remain well under melting, I'll drive in the snow all day. But as soon as the stuff starts turning to ice, I find ways to work from home or not go out.
