We have a short bed and no slider. We can go almost 85 degrees without a slider...it's all in the the setup of hitch, pinbox, and truck. If you want to see a cool F250 short box without a slider, try looking at the Reese Revolution Pinbox setup. Reese Revolution

Our Rockwood 8280 came with the Reese Revolution, which is why we did not get a slider. I'm glad we went that route rather than investing in a slider because we've never had the need to use it in 4+ years - steelpony5555ExplorerWhen I had my short bed I had a slider. But I never once used it. BUT, there is always that one time you can get yourself into a bind and really really need it......Better to have it and not use it then to not have and really need it..
- kab449ExplorerDepends entirely on the front cap design on the trailer. I have no problems with the combo in the signature line.

I like a long wheel base for towing.....crew cab w/ 8 ft bed.....2500 HD...

To each there their own, but I also prefer a long (8')bed for towing, more storage space in the bed, no special expensive slider hitch. - RyeguyExplorerWe have a short bed with a slider and use it quite a bit to park in the alley behind the house and had to use it a lot when booked at campgrounds that they don't know how long a 35'fiver can fill up their narrow roads and sites that are not meant for larger rigs.
X2 on having and not needing, jm2c - AllworthExplorer IITo have a slider and never need it is no problem.
To NOT have a slider and need it once is a huge (expensive) problem.
((I even have a slider in my long bed, but only because I was too cheap to buy a new hitch when I traded trucks.)) - dbblsExplorerYes, you need a slider, no, you don't need a slider. No one can answer this without knowing about your trailer. Heartland units can turn 88 degrees with a short bed and no slider. Other brands could hit the cab at 50 degrees. I towed with a short bed without a slider for over 10 years but I always had an extended pin box and a rounded front end on the trailer. Yes, I had to be careful when backing but I don't like to turn real short anyway because it is hard on the trailer suspension.
- BB_TXNomadGood friend had a short bed, no slider, and a 5er with squared off lower front corners. Knocked out his back window on a tight back in turn.
Traded that 5er for one with contoured lower front corners. Same truck and with a little more care never had a problem after that.
