When I first got my 2013 extended cab GMC w/ 6 1/2 ft bed I busted the window out of my 30 ft Alpenlite. After much thought I tried leaving the hitch slid back on a couple of short trips, no problem. I am just finishing a 7000 mile trip w/ the hitch still slid back, still no problem. It handles fine. Trailer is about 11K loaded. I am not reommending this to anyone, just passing it along to let others know it is possible.
And I am betting that you would easily recognize if there was an issue or concern. I doubt you will be putting anyone else at risk. And if you ever need to panic stop, I'll bet the weight transfer will put more weight on the front wheels. And that little pawl that holds your 11,000 pound trailer back will not shear and will hold it back. Especially if you do hit something with a direct front hit. But just in case, that little shot pin doesn't hold that 5.5 ton trailer back there, you and your family can probably duck under the dash, before that 5.5 ton trailer decapitates you all.
