Towing with lifted truck

IMHO - the lifted truck will be less of an issue with a 40 foot rv than with a 20 foot rv just from the long wheel base...

ours will be 41' :) and expect it to tow better than the 35 footer we have now.
(at least from all the other sites I've visited that tell me so and my in the dealer's lot test :) )

if u already have the truck, just hook it up and SEE how it does.... you may be pleasantly surprised... just be careful at first until you prove the concept. good luck and let us know

It's a suspension lift...

The truck is a 2007 GMC 2500HD Classic CCSB 4X4 with an RCD Suspension lift kit and 275/75/18 tires.

From what I can tell it retained the stock springs but has longer shocks. The rear has a block and longer U-Bolts.

What he said... I had an co-worker that had lifted his truck to about a 6 ft bed height, really over size tires. The wild thing is, it never went off-road, it was strictly a show truck.
He didn't drive it to work on icy or really rainy days, worried about the truck hydroplaning or skidding.

On my fifth wheel, on the suspension can be adjusted. Might be worth a try, definitely better, safer, easier and mostly cheaper than flipping the axles. height adjustable suspension

I also saw a youtube video of a guy that welded extensions to his suspension to achieve this. If you don't have a welder you can make one out of two deep cycle batteries. youtube it.

I tow with a 4.5" lift and 37's. Other than bad gas mileage, I don't have to many problems. You just need to watch your approach and departure angles carefully. I have kissed my toolbox a couple of times amd it's a low profile toolbox. I have about 5" between the trailer an bed rails.

Depends on the lift. If its a suspension lift that means all the OEM suspension parts will have to be located. And not all suspension lifts on a HD truck are made to do the job. And some can retain OEM load carrying specs. Body lifts are easier to handle.

Of your 3 options I cannot imagine putting the truck back to stock being the most expensive/inconvenient choice.

Most 4" lifts are not that incredibly involved and usually entail only moderate suspension modifications. Leafs/coils up front, blocks in the rear, and new shocks. Maybe brake lines. It's usually nothing that is not easily reversed with some sweat equity and help from friends. As an upside, most of the time the tires that people choose to use with a 4" lift will work just fine minus said lift. People usually over-lift, in my book. I would seriously look into it.

I had a 8" lift and towing a 39' fifth wheel .It towed ok but bad winds made it a lot worse.

Thank you for the feedback. I do not have a dually now. I couldn't remember how to update my sign but it's correct now. I purchased the new truck thinking I could easily lower it. It's not as easy as I thought.

The recommendation of flipping the axles on the trailer has come up several times but that would push the height limits of the trailer close to 13'6". I am not comfortable with that profile as well as the other issue of unequal axle weight distribution.

The trailer is already 40' long so adding the cool gizmo between the truck and trailer is not appealing to me at all - although it looks cool!

I also like the aluminum flat idea but I really got this truck because of the canopy and the ability to carry covered loads in the PNW.
