Town cable wiring

Hello, I had to replace the electrical wire that connects the 5th wheel to the truck.
Everything works fine but the power to the battery of the rig. Does anyone one knows what it could be wrong. The 5th wheel has a brand new battery. If I hook a charger to the battery is get power, if I connect it to the truck I don't. Brake, signal and electric brake work fine.
Any suggestions?
  • thanks Rusty, that pin is hot on my dodge ram as well. Just goes to show that old dog can still learn new tricks!!!
  • Jerry,

if battery is charged the landing gear operates if not connected on shore power.

I think i may have made a mistake in connecting the tow wire in the junction box.

I will charge the battery of the FW and look for power in the junction box this way i should find the right wire.
    Correct?

Good morning to all. Being new to 5th wheel ownership I have to ask this question concerning this topic. Do I understand that the truck charging system will charge the battery on the 5th wheel while in tow? All my reading on our new Outback 296frs did not say anything about this and I must admit I`ve never herd of this before. NEW 5TH WHEEL OWNER STILL LERNING!!!

Yes, your truck will charge the FW battery(ies) while the truck is running. Fords will =not= maintain a hot connection when the truck is shut down. GMs =will= keep a hot connection with the truck shut down and, if you don't unplug, you do run the chance of running the truck's battery(ies) down (though this usually takes at least 24 hours, or more, to happen). Not sure about the RAM's connection.

As posted above, Rams are always hot on pin #4.

Yes, wire in juction box should be hot at all times when battery is charged. The 12v from truck will be hot in junction box when plugged into truck recepticle (truck running if Ford).
