What would your solution be? The OP has a beam (ramp door) that suffers from too much stress and too much deflection for the existing material and dimension. The large area moment of inertia of that steel channel comes from the extended side flanges. Without those, there is little gain from a flat reinforcement added to the door.
Area moment of inertia
Ix = (b) (h^3) / 12
where
b = width
h = height
The Area Moment of Inertia increases (less deflection) with the CUBE of the height.
