Toy Hauler Suggestions for Ram 1500
I just purchased a 2016 Ram 1500 Rebel with the V8 HEMI and 3.92 rear, tow package and air suspension.
The side sticker says max weight is 950 lbs. Doing the calculations, that doesn't leave room for anything... I'm wondering if it was even worth get the v8 with the 3.92 and air suspension.
It will typically be two of us (350#) with another 50# or so of gear (400# total) in the truck.
Then there's the 100# WD hitch, so I'm left with about 450 lbs remaining for trailer tongue weight, which equates to about 4500 trailer weight.
First question is - is this right, or am I missing something? I think saying I can't tow more than 4500# on this truck is insane.
I will be using the toy hauler for 2 motorcycles, so I don't care much about length, but would prefer to have a separate bedroom. I'm looking at the Forest River Grey Wolf 22R, which has a GVWR of 7686#. I would tow long distance with the water tanks empty, so I'm hoping it'll be less than 7000#, but I'm still pretty far from the 4500# number from the RAM.
I'm not new to towing, so I'm okay with getting close to the limit of my vehicle's towing capability, and am hoping for maybe better suggestions than the 22R.
