I think the original deal went this way Marathons built in the US had little problems but then walked in Walmart China. They rewrote the specs on the Goodyear tires and all of sudden we had failures up the wazzo.
Goodyear took the tire permit back from Walmart and currently makes tires in both the us and China.
The old china china china was true for a long time and they may be better now, who knows.
I got 85,000 on my last set of Goodyear STs on my Jayco TT. I did have an axle problem and put the Matix (sp) on they did well but seemed less firm then the GYs.
Currently on my new Jayco they have the same'ol Goodyears, hope I get 100,000 with them.
China Marathons - Not Wally's fault..:R
GY Marathons did well on my (previous) 20' TT also.
In fact they were pushing 8 years old and looked beautiful -
however, old is old - right?
So - down to the local tire dealer I went. Ordered replacements.
Oops - distributor sent "new" USA mfg Marathons that were 17 months old..:(
Said, no way, Jose....and the tire dealer felt he had been hoodwinked by GY - and started making (irate) calls - up the chain of command!
GY admitted that they only did a production run of the size I needed once a year!
GY didn't want to tie up production of much more lucrative (and "in demand") tire lines for "niche" ST tires.
IMO - Easy solution - plenty of "generic" tire mfgrs in China - more than happy to mfg tires to furnished specs and brand them with *your* name - or - Goodyear..:W
ST tires on light TTs work OK, but unfortunately, ST tires and 5th wheels are a bad "combo".
