Trailer tire ratings?

Geez, I just read the other thread about Power King Towmax tires on larger 5'ers and now am freaking out just a little bit about how bad mine might be, even though they're not showing a lot of wear.

Because I just bought the rig in a private sale, I haven't yet gotten it inspected and am planning to do that next week. I've already put a lot of $$$ into this, but now I'm thinking I should just go onto Tire Rack, order new ones, and have them installed when I get it inspected.

Yep, here's the link to the Keystone specs for it. Shipping weight is 6964 ... of course, that's unloaded but we really don't have a lot in there. Our truck is rated for 9,800 so we've got lots of safety room.

The tires are Power King Towmax ST225 / 75R15 LRD. I took some pictures this morning on the way to work and, if the box you're talking about is after the DOT codes, the number is 1611, so they were manufactured around the end of April, 2011. The tread doesn't look at all bad on them and we had no issues on our (admittedly short range) shakedown cruise, but I'm a total noob to most of this stuff and learning as I go.

Did you mean to say that the other way around ?

It would say "2012" ....indicating the 20th week of year 2012

We just bought a 2012 Keystone Cougar XLite 26SAB (6900#). The original owner, a US Air Force veteran who took immaculate care of the rig, has the original tires on the rig and told me they only have about 7,000 miles on them from one cross country trip. I haven't looked at them closely let, but we're going to put about 1,000 - 1,200 miles on them at the end of July and I'm wondering if I need to spend the money now for new tires or wait until our first full season next spring.

Any thoughts are appreciated and I'll update this post once I've closely inspected the tires and found out their manufacturing location.

I ran my XPS RIBs for 6.5 years/40K+ miles and sold them on CL for 200 bucks with around 65% tread left. I hope to run my R250s as long or longer. The only reason I pulled the Ribs at 6.5 years was that one was 8.5 years from manufacture and was getting hair line cracks in the sidewall. The other three were 7.5 years old. Now I check date codes more closely.

I got 550 bucks up front from Kenda to remove their OEM chinese Kenda Klever LT bombs in the first year I owned the trailer/Feb 2005. So 550 + 200, and the RIBs really did not cost but a few hundred bucks.

Don't try that with a cheap tire.
