Nobody reminded anyone that the ST tire has a getter load carrying capacity that the same size LT. SO, if you decided to go LT than you need to bump up the size of tire and usually will mean new rims. and maybe then there would not be clearance?
Not necessarily true....If one has 6,000# rated axles and put's an "E" rated LT tire on, it has a capacity at 80 psi of 3042# each...so two tires cover 6084# on a 6,000# rated axle, and the truck will normally carry 20% of the 5er's weight, so no, you don't have to "bump up" the size of the tire...If 7,000# rated axles and need a G rated tire, you have the GY G 614's and now the Sailun G rated tire.
Load carrying capacity of ST tires degrades over the years, LT tires load carrying capacity doesn't.
Also, with reputation most ST tires have, I wouldn't use very many of them on my 5er...Pick up an E rated Michelin and compare it's weight and sidewall thickness to an E rated ST tire..believe you'll find the ST tire is sadly lacking....offering a higher weight capacity doesn't make it safe and doesn't make it any better when one blows while towing....
