Travel Supreme Select quality?

Looking for opinions on Travel Supreme Select quality.

I found a 2008 40 footer that looks very nice in pictures - just wanted to find out where it stacks up along side the other good manufacturers.

In build quality, is Travel Supreme Select best compared to:
a) New Horizon, Spacecraft, Continental Coach
b) Teton, Newmar
c) Lifestyle, Carriage, DRV Suites
d) DRV Tradition, Redwood, Trilogy, Heartland Big Horn
e) Lesser units...

Hopefully my next comment/question won't turn this into an argument, but the above is my current observation of build qualities in order based on what I've looked at and researched out there. Am I pretty much on the mark? In addition to Travel Supreme, am I missing any others I should be considering... I wish I could afford Group A, but I'm leaning towards finding a good used coach in Group B or C. I wasn't impressed with the guts of the ones mentioned in Group D.

Main question was: Where does Travel Supreme Select fit in? If it's A,B, or C, then I'll add them to my list.

Thanks!!!!
  • I owned a 2000 Travel Supreme Express and a 2004 Newmar Kountry Star.
Toured both factories as well as Carriage and DRV. Notice I now have a DRV. My personal opinion would place the TS above Newmar and Carriage but below a DRV Mobile Suites. This would be in the apples to apples comparison based on what each manufacture was building in 2008.
Now if you compare against new 2014 models it would be very close to Lifestyle or DRV Tradition. Again my personal opinion, Way above Redwood, Trilogy, Heartland Big Horn.
Also keep in mind that Travel Supreme was one of the 1st to go out of business in the 2008 economic downturn. A 2008 unit would be one of the last built and you might want to really study and test all systems before a purchase. Randu

Thanks! So, if I read this right, that means you also think I've put Newmar in the wrong slot...
  • In the late 90's, Travel Supreme was one of the top 3 manufactures.
  • "Jayco bought the assets of Travel Supreme RV in April 2008.

TS was known to manufacture high-end 5th Wheel trailers and Luxury Class A motor homes."

My knock on Newmar is that they used all vinyl wrapped wood in the 5th wheels. I had issues with edges fraying and just not material that should be in a high end coach. TS was all real wood and my current Mobile is real wood. Not wrapped press board. They shifted focus more towards motorhomes and stopped making 5th wheels somewhere around 2010. Randu
  • I agree with Randu.

I was thinking the Travel Supreme Select was the higher end of TS models. When we picked up our 2006 Elite Suite, a TS Select was inside the dealer's showroom. It had porcelain tile floors, upgraded furniture and carpet, 3 axles, glass bathroom vanity bowl and I think full-body paint. Nice, but heavier than our Suite and also quite a few thousand more.

DRV is a step above Carriage. We went through a Carriage factory tour on a Mon, DRV on a Tues and then bought our 2nd Suite. Even the Carriage owner who went through the Carriage factory tour with us marveled at the better quality and finishes of the Suites. He had already been on the tour, so kept talking to me about our next-day tour.
  • Alpenlite was right up there with any of those mentioned in build quality. They went out of business around 2006 and I understand had frame problems the last couple of years when they switched to Lippert frames from building their own,a cost cutting measure. They were built in Washington and you don't find too many in the eastern part of the country. If you come across one take a close look.
