I am new to the FW, and wondering at what point do side wind speeds hitting the trailer start to get you nerves. With my unit being high and light, I want to pay attention to this before traveling and having to fight the wind.
You have to judge the winds for yourself. If you're likely to have, more or less, head or tail winds, go. If you're looking at mostly crosswinds, then you'll have to judge for yourself. Having a low profile rig, I'd feel pretty comfortable towing it a pretty stiff cross-wind. With a mid or high profile, that would probably change. It really boils down to how comfortable you feel while driving. If you do find yourself white-knuckling it, then it may be time to find a place to pull over for a while, OR find a different route, if you can. Fifth wheels, by their design, are inherently much more stable than a TT. You simply don't have the lever arm that a bumper hitch compared to a FW hitch. Suggestions to water down, even to the point of filling the black =and= grey tanks, aren't to be scoffed at if you simply =have= to make some miles.
