No covers over vent covers. NO open! I like others said above, have seen ones open w/o covers and they are flopping all over the place. IMO, too weak of support for them. With covers on, can either leave open a crack or all the way. I try to leave ours open (Fantastic Fans w/ rain sensors and are open all the way or closed), but withy them open, I do think it does aid in drawing hot air out of them while going down the road. Another benny whichI'll repeat is w/ covers, can leave vents wide open w/o fear of rain getting into coach.
