Tripod brace for 5th wheel...really necessary?

We had one and needed it until we added Level-up to our Montana (38'). On the other hand we have a Washer/Dryer combo in the front along with our main closet in the bedroom and without the jack the whole trailer would shake.

I like mine! I guess it's a preference thing.

Our first fiver was a used and it came with a tripod brace. We faithfully hooked it up each time we stopped for about two years and then decided to go on our annual summer trip exploring North America without it. We found that we didn't miss it and we liked using the space it took up in the basement. So we finally gave it away. Perhaps, our fiver does move around a bit more without it, but it doesn't bother us at all. It is, as said before, a matter of preference and how tolerant you are. You need to try it before you decide for yourself.

Put Jt Strongarms on my previous 5th wheel and that solved any bounce problem. My new one has the 6 point hydraulic auto level system and therer is no movement at all. I would look into the strongarms vs the the tripod.

I feel no need for one. I think movement bothers some more than others.

We have one but don't bother with it if we only stop somewhere for a few days. Any benefit is hard to determine. Sometimes I can't tell the difference.

Put on a set of JT Stabilizers, you will be happy with them. The tripod is a waste of money.

Thanks everyone for your responses. We're gonna do 1 week locally so we can clean up the house before the renters come in, so I'll try it without the tripod. If we find that the movement is not an issue, we'll just put the tripod in storage while we're on the road for the year. Movement is not a big issue to me personally, so I'd be willing to trade off a little bounce in the RV over loosing precious storage space.

we have one , the kids are all over the place and never sit still. really helps even when their are 4 kids under 10 in the back room and we are up front..
