Our first fiver was a used and it came with a tripod brace. We faithfully hooked it up each time we stopped for about two years and then decided to go on our annual summer trip exploring North America without it. We found that we didn't miss it and we liked using the space it took up in the basement. So we finally gave it away. Perhaps, our fiver does move around a bit more without it, but it doesn't bother us at all. It is, as said before, a matter of preference and how tolerant you are. You need to try it before you decide for yourself.
