Trojan T105 Replacement

I am currently running two Trojan T105 6 volt golf cart batteries in my 5er. They are both in their 8th season of service. One of the batteries appears to have packed in while the other one still appears to be operating properly.
Quick question with the age of the batteries could I replace just one of them or would the newer one not operate properly with the old one if only one was replaced.
I'm thinking that your response would be for two new ones, but would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks,
Morley
  • I have and had a pair of T-125's on each TT. When I sold my TT last year they were 10 years old and going strong. Actually no difference as they acted the same way. So it was a no brainer to place two on our new to us TT. The key is never to go under 50% discharge and to add a charge wizard to the house charger convertor, keep water topped up. We are going to add solar in the next week and see how they do and may add two more. At the moment when dry camping, I charge them up with our Honda generator. We dry camp about 50% of our days of camping per year.
  • Yes, I have the same batteries X4. They are in their 7th season. I would like to get 8 seasons out of them.

    I will replace with AGM.

I won't go "Cadillac" AGM's. I will be 64, so I don't want the batteries to significantly outlast my desire to pull the rig.
  • If you replace the "bad" one, the remaining 8 year old battery will bring down the new one, so you will end up replacing three batteries instead of two!
  • Yes, our T105's are 7 years old, and they are a team. Both still strong, but when one goes,we will pick up 2.
  • Thanks guys really appreciate your input and this exactly along the lines of what I was thinking.
    Thanks,
    Morley
  • Hi Morley,

Replace both. Go to the local interstate store and see if they have any used telcom cell phone back up AGM batteries. I paid $120 Cdn with no core charge for mine. They are rated at 140 amp-hours each.
  • Yup, gonna have to replace both. 8 years, good run!!!!
  • 2 new ones. The other one is about ready to pack it in.

It's never recommended by any reputable battery company to mix batteries of different ages, especially *that* different.
