My tool box blocks the view as well, when I had the stock tailgate on, I used 3 bolts near the top to line it up on the pinbox and would also check my outside mirrors for lining up with the sides of the trailer. A friend gave me his old fifth wheel tailgate so I lost my center point mark, but then noticed a tab on the center of the back seat that sticks up and in view out the back window.
