I tend to agree with 5'ers not being a good idea with a 1/2 ton.  There are smaller lighter weight 5'ers that could work but manufactures aren't making as many of them as they used to.  I live in a mountain state and attempting to pull over 6,000lbs up the grades isn't fun.  Sure truck can do it but it's just not fun.  Been there, done that.
So we upgraded to a diesel 3/4 ton and went from a 6,000lb 23' TT to a  8800lb 30' 5'er.  Absolutely love it!  So much more outside storage on the 5'er than the TT.  No more getting beat up by high winds and trucks.  Tows so much easier.  The only downfall is backing.  A few feet longer than the TT and slower turn response of the 5'er takes some learning.
