TV Mount Problem

My 32" Vizio died for the second time so I dumped it for a Samsung which requires M8 bolts for wall mounting. They are bigger than the slots in the mounting plate. How best to widen the four 1" long slots? If they were holes, I would drill them out.

I finally figured out that I needed M8 bolts with 1.25 coarse thread instead of the 1.00 fine thread I bought originally. A pretty heavy bolt for such a light TV.
I replaced my HUGE old analog TV with a cheaper one...brought it in the house when our kitchen TV died, then I broke it when a measuring cup hit it. I replaced it with a 27" Samsung and found it is really nice to have both TVs in the house with the same remote, so I then bought another Samsung in 32" for the trailer. I bought a mount for it and couldn't figure out why none of the bolts fit and then discovered I needed the M8 bolts...they just fit the holes in the mount so no drilling required. I also thought it was a bit much for such a light TV! It works great, but I used the audio out to feed my stereo so I can use my trailer speakers, which is REALLY nice, but the TV 'forgets' the setting when power is removed, so every time we move or I turn the power off, I have to go into the menu and reset the audio...

And I would have used a Dremel to widen the slots as well.

  • I feel your pain. I am on my third 32" Vizio in 1 and 1/2 years. When this one dies, there will not be another Vizio.
  • It is the 2nd Vizio that has had a Power supply fail. Didn't know the problem on the first on, but it was a 21" and just replaced with a Samsung that still works years later.
The 32" Vizio failed and I diagnosed the failed power supply and replaced it. This second failure is probably a voltage regulator but I am on the road where I can't order parts so I just replaced with a 32" Samsung that weighs less than half.

  • It will be interesting to see if others have problems with Vizio since it's what came in ours. Samsung or Sony will be its replacement when needed. 3 years in our old 5er didn't cause a problem for the Sony we had that now resides in the grandkids room.

My Vizio died also-I do not think the Vizio liked all the bouncing around?
Like you, I purchased a Samsung, so far so good.
  • Drill bit just jammed so used Drexel cutting bit and tapered grinding but.
  • Might use a Dremel Tool or a small grinding wheel. JMO
  • If it were me I would drill several holes of the correct diameter, then "connect the dots" with a jig saw. You could mark where the bolts would go and just drill there. Either way should not take a lot of time, good luck!
