Two Tire Questions

My current Goodyears (LT 235/85R16 G Rated) are 6 years old. They look great and are always parked under my RV carport in the shade and on asphalt when not in use. Based on what I've read here they should be replaced due to age. Is that true even if not in the sun?
Secondly, the Goodyears are now nearly $400 each. I just had Hancook 19.%" tires put on my 450. Has anyone had any experience with them on a heavy Fiver? My HitchHiker weighs 16K. Thanks folks.
  • Mike, I have the same tires on my 5er and "rule of thumb" is to have them replaced after 5 yrs. There is a Wingfoot Dealership off I40 at the Candler exit.....At 6 yrs, you're really pushing your luck..When I replaced mine, they too looked brand new. They are an expensive tire and when it's time for me to replace mine, if the GY G614's haven't dropped in price, I may look at the Sailun tire that has been much talked about on these forums....A China made tire, albeit, a high quality tire, that I will look at when the time comes and possibly purchase instead of the GY G614's..

  • I have he same tires and he first trip when they were 6 years old 1 blew and I replaced all 4. My tires were always coverd and 110psi.
  • For Safety the rule of thumb is to replace tires when they reach 5 years from the date of manufacture. They may last longer with proper care but the odds are against you beyond five years of age.
