double check your weight ratings, tow capacity etc of your tow vehicle. Know what you have and don't listen to the sales guys. They will only tell you stuff so they can sell you stuff. Good Luck & Be Safe ! ! !

The Escape 5.0TA might work. Personally, I think you'd be better off with a travel trailer. I'd also consider a used trailer since this would be your first RV.

As for towing with a gasser, don't be afraid to run the RPM up into the peak of the power band and don't worry about speed. Take what MPH you get for a given RPM; just manually shift into the gear that will comfortably hold that RPM without the tranny hunting, and keep it there. If that means 25 mph on a grade, so be it. Just run with the heavy boys and don't try and pass them. All you can do.

Thanks to all that haved commented. I was pretty sure I did not want to do that anyway. I have never pulled a RV trailer etc of any kind so I do not want to take any sale guy word that it will work. Think I need something under 5000 lbs for sure if not closer to 4500.

Allen Camper Mfg. builds some lightweight "Idle Time" 5th wheels. The 199RB may fit your needs. We will be leaving on the 27th on our first long trip with our new 219RKS.

I pulled a TT that weighed 4750lbs dry, probably 6000lbs loaded with an '04 F150 stx 4x4 with the 4.6L motor and 3:55 gear. It did OK in the flatlands but in the mountains of North Carolina I thought it was going to blow up a couple of times. That combination of truck and trailer didn't like the 6 to 8% grades we encountered there. IMHO I think you need more truck for a fiver of any substantial size.

Read this month's Trailer Life, they have a Ford towing a 21' Escape. The Escape only weighs 4390# hitch weight 620#. There is a Scamp with similar specs. Both of these 5th wheel's can be pulled without any problem by your truck.

I strongly suggest that you upgrade trucks or find a light towed trailer. That said, there are a few FW's that you could tow, but think weight and brakes. I would much rather have too much truck than be right at or over the limits.

You aren't giving any weights of the FW, but it would have to be very light to tow with a 4.6, and 3.55.

Depending on bed length, and FW front design, you may, or may not need to have a slider hitch. Andersen hitch may be another option, and would help with the payload also.
