UltraLight 5th Wheel recommendation

Livinlight 5th wheel, What gear ratio do you have? Also OpenRange

I just bought a Cougar 29RLI Lite high country and it is really nice. I looked at the Jayco and they didn't have a lot of the options that the Cougar had. My Cougar has the 4 point leveling system, and it has Corian counter tops. To me the Cougar had better materials then the Jayco.Have you gone and looked at both?

Those 5th wheels are a bit much for that f 150. Although you may have towing capacity, I dont think you have enough payload..

Depends on what cab design and if 4x4 or not. What year also? I think they range feom 1200 lbs to 2500 lbs

Those hitch weights are 1200 dry and 1300 dry on the 5th wheels..

Your hitch weight i=on your current 5th wheel shows 1000 lbs dry. Loaded you may be over your payload limit..

Have you been to the scales?

Have you looked at the EvergreenRV lineup? BayHill?

Escape 5.0 is an interesting small fifth wheel.

That 5.4 is going to struggle especially if you have the 3:55 axle. Also as mentioned, you will be limited with you truck payload, not what it can tow (those are two different things) . You would need to find a fifth wheel with loaded pin weight of about 1,000 lbs or less. With pin being 20 percent of the loaded weight of any fifth wheel you will be limited to a fifth with a gvwr (not dry weight) of 5000 lbs or less. I recommend going with a TT with gvwr of 6000 or less with that truck. Tongue weight on a TT properly loaded runs about 13 percent.

Which is part of why I suggested the Escape 5.0. It weighs about 4000 pounds or less ready to go camping. The OP's truck would easily pull it.

Frank, take a look at the Open Range line. They do make 5eers that are 1/2 ton towable.

Thank you for the replies. The gear ratio on the F-150 I have now is 4.10. I noticed that the tow packages of new F-150 trucks gear ratio is 3.73.

I have not had any problems towing the 5th wheel I have now.
