This ONLY benefits the manufacturer and the relationship with the Dealer - it does NOTHING for the customer. What follows this attitude is you can't BUY an RV outside of the Dealership district for your zip code!
You really need to look at what is behind the motivation for this - it is a commitment from the manufacturers to their Dealers to try to guarantee a customer base for service after sale. As a customer, look how handicapped this can be if you find the Service department to be totally incompetent, as many RV service centers are.
Cobalt boats has a firm policy on getting your boat serviced at the selling dealer or get permission from the selling dealer to have it worked on by another Dealer. You also have to buy from your local dealer, as another dealer will not sell to you! It was a deal breaker for us!
Be very careful what you wish for!
