Unhook to level

I'm about to purchase a Voltage 3905 with the 6 point hydraulic leveling.
Why does everyone say you have to unhook your 5th wheel from the truck to get it level?
I never did with my old toy hauler and never had a problem. It's just nicer and easier for me to pull in and not unhook.
I just figured if it was close to level when hooked to the truck it wouldn't cause anymore stress or problems.

Thanks

  • You can autolevel connected to the truck. I have a 3950 and do it every day while traveling. The only time I disconnect is if the spot is not big enough for the whole rig or I need to go somewhere after I am parked.
There is a learning curve with the system and you will learn with each setup. On occasion I have had to use manual mode, but I have not figured out how to get the center jacks down in this mode.
My last trip was three weeks long and I moved every day except 2 and those 2 stops are the only time I disconnected from the truck.
  • Part of the price you pay for automation, in this case you need remove the weight from the hitch (your truck) for it to work.
  • the auto level has to throw itself off level in order to find level. i know seems strange but that is how it works. you can always use the system in manual and level that way too though, that is what i do when i wanna get level without unhooking.

but yes that is correct you cannot auto level without unhooking
