Use Tripod or not?

Hello all,

We recently traded from a Raptor 40 ft. 5th wheel Toy hauler to a Montana 5th wheel. We used a tripod under the front hitch on the toy hauler. Should we use it on the Montana? It is the 3725MK which is 40 ft. as well.

Thank you

I installed the Strongarms on the Toy hauler and what a difference. This new trailer has the Autolevel stuff on it. Still learning how to use it. I should have mentioned that. That is why I am asking about the tripod.

If the JT's are doing their job you shouldn't need the tripod. But since you have it why not try it and see if there's any difference. I can't imagine it would improve your setup enough to warrant packing it around though.

  • Certainly helps with our 30-foot Rockwood, but I think the locking chocks between the tandem wheels have more of an impact. Used together, the RV is about as solid as it's going to get.
  • I've got a bi-pod but it works just same. The effectivness is site dependent. I found that the distance you raise the front landing gear really makes a difference in the sway/rocking. Where I'm currently set up the landing gear is only extended 16", (the site slopes hard front to back) and the camper has very little sway. When a site is level or drops back to front and I need to have a lot of travel I use the king pin stabilizer.

  • Using a tripod helps stabilize my Cedar Creek when the clothes washer is spinning. Otherwise, would not use it.
  • If you have a air bag kingpin they are a waste of time and money. Had one with a previous RV tried it and gave it away.
  • We don't feel the need. We figure that a little rockin' is part of the campin' experience.
  • If you've got it, you like it, then use it. I quit hauling mine along several years ago and got the JT Strongarms. Personal preference.
