Vanleigh Vilano = TIFFIN !!

Just learned that the Vanleigh RV builders of the Vilano line of 5th wheels are part of the Tiffin family. Bob Tiffin is co-owner of this family owned line of 5th wheels. Tiffin has been making well built motorhomes for decades and now they're in the 5th wheel business. I'm excited that we might finally have a quality 5er builder to buy from.
  • And now they are tooling up a Class C and possibly B facility in Winfield Al, so they'll have A's, 5er's and C's.
  • They have been around going on a year now. We looked at them extensively at the Tamp show in January. Didn't find them to be built any differently than most the rigs out there nor was there really anything that set them apart from anything else from a design view point. I also found the owner to be a bit on the defense when asked about brake and tire (or lack of) options.
I'm not saying they are or are not equivalent to the Tiffin line of class a's as I guess time will tell. Going into year two now and they still only offer 2 floor plans.
What will set them apart from other brands will be initial build quality and then service after the sale.
There have been a few post here from Vilano owners. Hopefully they will chime in.
  • We have seen several at rv shows here in Tucson. I was not impressed at all. They are definitely NOT a "Tiffin product" and don't claim to be. The prices hover around $60 to $70k. The interior cabinets are cheaply built. They may compete with other mid level brands. Nothing to see here, folks.
  • I visited in Aoril with a guy who owns one. He was taking it back to the factory with some issues. Things that happen with other brands. I looked at it and did not look that much different than another good FW brand.
  • One floorplan available in 2 sizes---not impressed. I remember when HitchHiker had more than 30 models in about 8 different lines.
  • We considered a Tiffin motorhome a few years back. There's nothing magic about them - their owners seem to make regular pilgrimages back to Red Bay, AL for service and repairs. They've had their problems with utility bay floors rotting out, etc. just like any other manufacturer. I wouldn't expect anything different with a "Tiffin" 5th wheel.

  • Vanleigh started in the 5th wheel market by purchasing a Grand Design Solitude 369 and basically replicating it with their tweaks.

I know a few owners, and all have had severe issues with it. Very few dealers carry them, so they have trouble getting fixed.
