Want to replace vent with MaxAir

We would like to add a MaxAir vent where a standard vent is in the living area but not certain it will be possible. The current vent does not have a fan so I don't know if power is available. This may be a dumb question but is there anyway to find out without taking the standard vent out first? I would think they would build these things so fans could be added later but really don't know. Considering a call to the manufacturer but just wanted to put a feeler out here first. Has anyone ever done this?

  • Thanks! I had thought of that but wasn't sure how easy it would be. I will check that out when I go to storage.
  • I added a fan to a vent that had no power to it. Yes, the plastic trim is only held on by 4 screws so it's very easy to take it off and check. If no power is right there, tsp into the nearest 12 volt light. It's very easy to snake wires above the ceiling if a source isn't too far away.
  • If you have a 12v ceiling light fixture near the vent you should be able run the wires with little trouble.
  • Well, I went ahead and called the manufacturer. According to Joe, he doesn't think it is wired but not sure. He said to take the inside plastic piece off and double check. He said I may be surprised at what I find because a lot of the newer trailers are built with the option of adding later. Ok, so he wasn't a tremendous amount of help but he was really nice. Guess I will go to the storage facility and check it out later as this could possibly be a project for the weekend if it will work. Crossing fingers but not holding my breath.
  • I'm still fairly new to this also. But, apparently it's easy to remove the inner ring of the vent and you can then look around inside the ceiling cavity and put the ring back. All without removing the vent from the roof itself.
