We have a maxair fan up over the bed. Recently it stopped working while turned on. I turned it off and removed the fuse. It was hot enough to burn my fingers. I took down the screen and tried to spin it by hand and it spins easily. I cleaned the screen and replaced it and put the fuse back in - same thing. It runs for a minute or so and then slows and stops. Then I discovered that if I hold the black fuse cap all the way up all is good. It works fine, but when I let go the fuse comes out about 1/8" against a spring and slows and stops along with heating up the fuse.I can't see any way to replace the fuseholder. Can I just put a little ball of aluminum foil in the cap so the fuse fits tighter? I think that would work but would it be safe?It is the correct 4A fuse. This is original to the rig and never a problem before.

Because the fuse was loose and making poor contact in the fuse holder. The poor contact causes the connection to generate heat the same as a loose wire will do.

Don't wrap the fuse in foil but if you put a bit of foil in one end of the fuseholder to make up the space you should be fine. Once you do and it's working properly just double check to make sure it is not heating up. If it still does then you need to stop using it right away until you can get a replacement.

Are you positive it is a Maxxair vent and NOT just a Maxxair top cover? I just looked up the parts for the various Maxxairs and they show NO 12 volt fuse in the vent. FANTASTIC roof vents have that type fuse. Doug

as been said i think that is a Fantastic Fan
mine has 5 white Phillip head screws that hold the fan mounting plate to the vent housing
the NUT for the fuse holder is on the other side of that plate
like ALL such fuse holders

remove screw from lift knob
remove the 5 screws drop the plate with the motor
and you can replace the fuse holder
