Warning for those with onboard generator

Our 30C is a touch over a year old and has an Onan 5500 generator. I was poking around underneath the other day and noticed that the rubber exhaust hanger was cracked/dry rotted in two places and ready to give way. A $5 universal exhaust hanger from the local parts store bolted right on to the existing hanger and we are good to go. However, if I didn't catch this before it came apart, it would have made quite the mess dropping down at highway speed. Anyways, check yours if you have one. It could save you some headaches and $ in the future.
  • Keep an eye on the fuel filter as well. It's made of stamped steel and they tend to leak after a few years.

Being a mechanic all my working life, I lost track of how many "naps" I took lying on a creeper staring at the bottom of a vehicle :Z

    +many :)
I remember when I got my first job pulling wrenches; I was pretty young and dumb; many a hung-over morning was devoted to creeper time :)

Holy crap!!! Is that all billable hours?:)

I just stay under longer now because it's harder to get back to on feet.

  • My straps broke within 3 weeks of new ownership. Both straps broke through the rubber mounts. The dealer replaced with metal straps. No problems since.
  • I caught mine a little under a year oid too and just made a new one from conveyor belt material I had and has lasted longer this time. I sometimes grab my carboard go under my rig and just lay there studying (sometimes take a nap, lol)everthing so that when something is out of place or broken I catch it.
  • Ours broke years ago, but a quality pipe hanger has held since then.
Kinda like most everything else on our rigs, they put cheap krap in while building the trailer and we later have to replace those items with better quality stuff.
