I started my full timing about 3 months ago. Prior to that I read just about everything I could find on rv.net about washers and dryers. Most people that owned a w/d said the same thing - stay away from the ventless dryer models. 50/50 opinions are one thing but when you get the scale tipped that far, then I tend to go with the opinion of the majority.
So I ordered my rig with the separate Splendide units (vented dryer) and couldn't be happier. Yes, they take smaller loads but so what ? Put a load in and go do something else. Come back, do another load - or not, go do something else. No big deal. It's not like you'll need to stand in front of it and watch it to make sure it does it's job. This is not like cooking dinner. And the w/d is about 1 foot away from where everything gets put away so it's not like you have to carry clothes up and down stairs.
You do have to adjust. Instead of doing laundry every Sunday, you may do a load every other day.
Real world - my dryer takes 50-60 minutes to dry a load. As someone stated, these do run on 120 volts instead of 240 like your elec dryer at home so they will all take longer. But who cares ?
My manufacturer (BigHorn) did the install so apparently they did not think there would be any structural integrity issues. I would check your manufacturers website to see if they offer a washer/dryer as an option. If they do, then I would pursue the question with them as to why you can't have that vent hole drilled in yours.
One last thing that's real important to me - as BB_TX said "But I know whose clothes have been in our machine and what was in/on those clothes."
Good Luck.
