Water Heater Fixed!!!

We stopped in Dothan Alabama. They got hot water coming out of the water heater. Not sure what the problem was as we didn't get to talk with the tech. Something about the sequence used to open and close the valves. Hats off to Camping World in Dothan - NO CHARGE, Just enjoy your trip.

Thanks everyone for all the help.

  • Not a new system. Yes we are taking a picture. It would have been good to find out the answer but they were busy and worked us in. Didn't want to push especially when they had been so helpful.
  • I believe there was more to the story than what was actually comminicated, as I eluded to in the original post.

After running through some problem solving steps we think it might be a check valve. We did a combination of open and closed valves. There is hot water in the water heater. It has pex lines and valves. We think the cold in line valve was put on wrong ( just checked and winterized by rv dealerhad it ). Once we put the cold valve the wrong way!!! We have water again from all taps including outside shower but not hot. It is so awkward to see and get to. Guess our next step is take it to an rv repair place. Anyone know a good one near Troy Alabama. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Was this by-pass system just installed or repaired at the time ?

If so, that would have been good information in your original posting.

Water pressure, but NO hot water & inlet valve in "closed" position, but is really "open", and in consideration of what you've described earlier.

Then the By-pass valve is also wrong.

You really should have found out WHAT they did. :S
Sequence about opening/closing of valves means absolutely nothing.

They are just 1/4 turn valves. Either they are open or they are closed.

I agree 100%. I made a stupid mistake by not checking the location of the valves when we first got The Beast. I had no hot water and called a mobile tech service. Luckily he was in the park already doing a repair. This guy walks over, turns the water heater bypass valve to 'off' and collects $20. Ugghhh. I felt like an ass. Yes, an expensive lesson, but one I'll not easily forget. So, consider yourself fortunate portliz, but as stated already...TAKE A PHOTO.

Not having them in the correct position does cause issues....not which one is opened or closed 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

Cold inlet..bottom valve OPEN (valve handle parallel with inlet line)
Hot outlet..top valve OPEN (valve handle parallel with outlet line)
Bypass......middle valve CLOSED (valve handle perpendicular with line between cold & hot)
  • Glad working again. Ditto on the pics!

Good to hear Camping World helped you out quickly and at no cost!
  • Glad you got it fixed. It is important to find out what they did or you might be back next year asking how to get water out of the water heater. It might be a good idea to take a photo of how the valves are now for future use.
