water leak (tedlar tape)

This week we were out and had a couple of bad storms. One of the slide was leaking and coming into some cabinets. I checked and it appears it is leaking where the tape meets the outside of the slide. The dealer said to use TEDLAR Tape. Has anyone done this. He said to remove the old tape and put new on. I am concerned with getting it loose from the roofing. Any tips??
Any better product to use??
  • I have done this in the past. It is not easy to get the tape off. As I peeled I used a razor blade to help. Carefully so I did not cut into the membrane below. Make sure you clean thoroughly and let it dry. The new stuff will not stick other wise. Also make sure you use a wide tape, 4 inches or more. This will ease it from peeling when slide moves in.
I had that issue on my 2004 sprinter.
My new 2013 Chapparal had the same issue and leaked bad. I had the dealer take care of that on under warranty.

    Good luck.
  • Depending on the condition of the tape, I have read some where about someone who used caulk on the edges of the tape where it was coming up and stopped the leak. Others mentioned that removing the tape is a hard job. Might try searching for the thread on here for other replies.
