We may have to sell

We may have to sell our 5th Wheel. I am looking for advice on the best way to do it. We've only had it a year and bought it new. Should we sell it with the truck, without or optional? Should we try a consignment at a large RV dealer or try ebay or Craig's List? Thank you for your advice.
  • Sold mine on craigs list today,it took two weeks, as a matter of fact.I sold my last one on craigs list too.You just have to use common sense. If it doesnt seem or feel right it probably isnt. You will get more money selling on your own than giving it to rv dealer to sell. They want to sell their new units over yours. They wont push as hard to sell yours and then people are walking through it all the time.Damage happens.Plus their commission.Way better to have patience and sell it outright.Nothing wrong with craigslist if your smart.Ive sold dozens of items on craigslist. Not everyone is out to get you.
  • I sold mine on Cragslist. Wanted to sell just the 5er but the buyer wanted truck also. In listing be sure to post several good pictures and price it/them right. My price was firm and so listed. Have found that posting Thursday of Friday will keep it near the top for viewing. Sold mine in 3 weeks ( think I posted it twice ). Good luck.

What is the kind of 5th. wheel are you are trying sell?
  • I helped a friends wife sell their 5th wheel. I went down and got a written agreement from the dealer. On a $28K 5th. wheel he charged $2000 commission. He also went to the home and towed the trailer to his business. The dealer told me he also advertised the trailer on craig's list and a couple of other web sites for RVs. It sold in 2 weeks. Everyone was happy.
  • Sorry you folks need to sell :(

Is there an auto auction down there around Clovis or Fresno?
Sold a truck sometime ago at the one in Rocklin CA.

Got near my asking price the first day.
  • Whatever you do, be carefull. This man has still not been found. From Toronto Star.......The family of a Toronto man arrested in south Mississauga late Friday afternoon is shocked that he's been charged in connection with the mysterious disappearance last Monday of an Ancaster man.
Deepak Paradkar, the lawyer for Dellen Millard, 27, said his client comes from a good family and described him as a “polite, reserved and humble guy.” He has no criminal record that Paradkar knows of, and it makes “no sense” that he would be involved in such a bizarre set of circumstances, Paradkar said.

Millard is charged with theft and forcible confinement in the disappearance of Tim Bosma, 32, a married father of one. Bosma disappeared last Monday night after accompanying two men who took his black Dodge Ram pickup truck on a test drive. Bosma had posted the truck for sale on Kijiji and AutoTrader.
  • Unfortunately, face to face sales can be dangerous now days in California.

If you list it on Craigslist, RVtrader.com, Ebay or other site, always meet prospective buyers in daylight and have another person with you. One would act as a lookout from a secure spot ready to call 911. Setup a signal you can use to show all is OK or need help.

If the buyer has others with them, don't let them in your house. Try to complete the transaction inside the RV with just the buyer and where your lookout can see you. Many thefts have occurred inside a house while a sales transaction is going on, a friend of the buyer will ask to use the bathroom and ransact bedrooms. They will leave quickly with some excuse like they forgot their wallet at home and will be back.

Consignment is safer but you can lose money in commission. Be sure to get their marketing plan in writing. You want to go with a dealer that will advertise your RV and try to bring in buyers. Most will just park on their lots and wait for buyers.

If it's a popular model or is equipped with lots of popular options, go back to the dealer you bought it from they may offer a decent price because they know they can move it.

Post flyers in all RV resorts and campgrounds in your area.
  • know matter which way you go, be very wise to scammers. they lurk all over the net. I,d go for the dealer consg.
