Because they don't understand it and incapable of thinking what they're asking before they post.
They listen to some guy wearing a flannel shirt sitting around a campfire who doesn't have the smarts to find a law book let alone read and understand it. This guys spouts all the BS he's read on the internet and injects his own beliefs. Not knowing any different they believe that guy and then when they repeat they feel they have to add their own thoughts as if they were facts.
Then you read a thread like this. Someone asks if they've ever been pulled over for being overweight and 6 people chime in with being pulled over at ag inspection stations as if agriculture inspections is in anyway related. Then 2 more will pop in with 'if you're not commercial then it doesn't matter'. They're also probably wearing flannel shirts around the campfire because they sure haven't read any laws about weights. Then there will be the few who will interject about the federal sticker on the door post as if that's a legal weight restriction. They heard that from the guy in the flannel shirt too.
Probably the biggest problem is the failure of people to think. People might have an idea of their total weights. We see enough threads about someone asking about pulling a 14000 lbs 5ver with their 8000 lbs F-350 with E range tires. But then they can't figure out if they add those 2 weights together they're not even close to being over gross weight limits. Don't even ask them to think it thru and figure it out. It's beyond their capabilities.
