Not exactly accurate coachman. The USSC ruled that stopping vehicles in such roadside checks are legal. Vehicles can be stopped for reasons of enforcing DUI. The driver can be asked to show ID during the stop. No probable cause is needed.
For commercial vehicles, which doesn't apply to anything on an RV forum unless you're in the business of transporting RVs, probable cause is not needed for a stop for purposes of enforcing motor carrier safety laws.
Yes it is! If you are driving irradically they have probable cause, where they are screening for drunks, they set up a check point, slow you down so they can take a good look, if they see something that is also probable cause, they can ask you to pull over for a further check. That is still probable cause, searching the vehicle you must give permission or they need to get a warrant, even if the dog starts barking!! You are correct commercial vehicles come under a whole differant set of rules, and they do not apply here!
