Weight Police,
Allthough I think you are right this time, you made a lot of assumption that have not been valid for years. Not only is the 1/2.. 3//4 and 1 ton meaninglless. 150/1500 etc are misleading.
I have a 1500 with a payload rating of 2,090 pounds and over 3,000 pounds of capacity on the OEM tires and axle. I can easilly pull/haul the subject 5er.
We really need details before giving absolute advice.
You have a 1500HD, which is really a light 3/4 ton, and has not been made in a number of years. I just went 1/2 ton shopping this past Saturday with a friend getting into a travel trailer. We went to a lot of large dealers (Ford, Ram, Toyota). These dealers had over 250 1/2 ton trucks. I challenged them to show me a 150/1500 quad, double or crew cab truck with over 1,600 lbs payload showing on the label inside the drivers door jamb.
All salesmen said no problem, we order ours with good payload capacity. None could do it. We could not find a 1/2 ton with a payload label over 1,600 lbs. Believe it or not, most labels inside the drivers door showed a payload of from 1,100 lbs to 1,400 lbs. I'm not saying you can't special order one, just that they are not the norm and it's really rare to find one on the lots.
I know what I said to the OP is true 99% of the time for Dodge 1500. He could be the 1%, but if he were he would probably know the answer to his question.
