It sounds like your describing the Accu-Slide cable system. More than likely the cable broke and wedged in one of the pully assemblies. The motor and cables attached will be located at the top of the slide behind a valance or at the bottom of the slide close to the floor. You may have an access panel under the dinette booth.

Thank you for the link to the slide diagrams. I haven't looked at it yet but hopefully the access is through the bottom since there is no valance that would conceal the mechanisms.
