The cables only pull your unit in and out. The rollers underneath will support the slide and it cant fall out unless you remove the inside trim panels that stop the slide when fully opened.
On mine with it fully closed, or the slide out in, I can access the side panels to view the cable and pully assemblies. There is a metal cover that you will need to unscrew as seen in the manual I previously posted. The system looks way more complicated than it really is. I think I recall viewing a video on Youtube on how to replace the cable. You might want to search youtube
