We're heading out west at the end of Sept and looking for info about conditions out there. Are we safe planning a trip through the N.W. this time of year?We have a '12 Tundra w/2016 31ft Rockwood Ultra-Lite (9,100 GVW/1,100 king-pin) and this is first long pull through mountains, all feedback is welcome!!!

It is currently smokey in Eastern Washington and about 90 degrees. It has been cooling down overnight to around 60.There is suppose to be a front moving into Western WA tonight. By the end of Sep, everything should be close to normal. We could have rain, snow or clear skies. It is still a good time to come!

We should be getting some rain by then. It's been pretty smokey in a lot of Oregon. However, if the fires persist, head for the Oregon Coast. The prevailing west winds keep the smoke away and September into October is one of the best times to visit. Many state parks have reserveable sites if you prefer, but many are not crowded then. The coast south of Newport tends to be way less crowded. Have fun.

Remember by the end of Sept east of the cascades can and likely will see freezing temps overnight and 60s and 70s daytime highs. Plan accordingly because lots of eastern Oregon parks will either be closed or have curtailed facilities.

Keep in mind, the PNW has vastly different climates, west and east of the Cascades and then the coast areas. It would really depend on "where" you will be traveling. I would agree with most that by end of September we "should" be starting a more wet pattern, but last year it wasn't until late October that some areas didn't get started on having more rain. Anyway, more information on where are you planning on traveling will give you a better answer.

Last year when we went to the North West USA, I found a website that had a 30 day forecast. We used information to time our arrival and departure. The information was helpful and fairly accurate.
