I have been RV’ing since 1978; since 2003 I have had 3 5er’s, an Alfa which had no insulation and a lousy heat pump located under and in the rear of the rig. In 2007 we bought a MS 36 TK3 which we had till last August when we picked up our special order 2013 MS 38RESB3 4 slide unit. Both of the DRV’s had some issues, none that prevented the use of the rig. Current MS is at the dealer having some warranty work done. My experience with both units is I tell them what I think is in need of replacement or repair and it is done. Have not had to plead my case to get repairs done.
The good thing about DRV is they will work with you on modifications to satisfy your needs. Just ask and they will tell you if they can or can’t do the mods. Ours has a lot of ES equipment. Also, I have confirmed with DRV that although my rig is rated at 18,500 gvwr it is the same unit structurally as the ones rated at 20K and we can go to that weight if we want to. Strong unit. Might want to check out this site:
SOITCAs to the RV type frigs’ ability to catch fire, they can but that is very rare; you can do some research on this issue. Residential frigs’ and in fact anything can fail and generally will, eventually. As to A/C’s, just order 15K units; they do take some time to cool a unit down but ours work well and keeps us at whatever temps we want. Just takes longer the hotter it is outside.
I feel that the main characteristic we like about the MS’s we have had is that they are very “homey” and very livable. We now snowbird in AZ with our 2 German Shepherd Dogs and have plenty of walking around room with our floor plan. Good luck on your decision and I would suggest you check out the SOITC website for dealers, there is one in OKC that is thought of very highly.
