I used the relay to keep the normal switch function and to isolate the normal positive connection from my trucks reverse light connection. I did mine a couple of months ago and backing into the yard at night is a one person job now.
I'm going to paint some reference points with reflective paint so I should be able to nail it on the first try every time.
