One of my ol' co-workers leased the house out (their kids still lived in the area and could keep an eye on it). Nearly 20 years later (he retired early at 56), they kicked the current lease holder out, remodeled the house (while living in the RV), then moved back into the house.
While they were traveling the lease holder(s) paid off the mortgage and then provided them with an income stream to both maintain the house and help pay for the upgraded (pural) RVs.
